Went to the dentist today

December 1st 2009, I, Miles Frank went to the dentist this morning at 8 oclock. My teeth are super clean and my breath is fresh. But I almost didnt make it there. I forgot to set my alarm and woke up 15 minutes before my appointment. I RUSHed out of my house only to find my car covered in frost. Is it winter yet? While warming up my car I scraped the rock hard ice off my windsheild and RUSHed to downtown kirkland where my dentist's office is.

Got my teeth cleaned then came home and started to play the drums, then i realized it was only 9 oclock and my roomate and neighbors were still sleeping. I get off the drums in a RUSH and came upstairs where my korean neighbors were standing with their arms crossed in their pajamas....yelling at me.

Actually that never happened, I made the part up about my korean neighbors.

After playing the drums i came upstairs and started wrtiting this blog....i'll probably put it on the Miles Frank blog as well.

Its thanksgiving day and here I am sitting at my computer blogging about thanksgiving, while my two cats feast on the organs of the turkey we're eating tonight. Just finished watching "Natural Born Killers" after showing up to work at 7:30 only to be told I had the day off.

Everyone is coming to my house for thanksgiving this year. By everyone I mean the family, cousins included, about 20 people total:

Guy and I went to bellingham this last weekend to play some music with Jesse from the Oregon Donor and Brayden from the Lonely Forest. We had a great and relaxing time. Today we went to the capitol hill region to shop for some new clothes. We're in the process of upping our wardrobe. I got a new pea coat and a hip red striped hoodie. Guy and pat got some sweet stuff too! But i'll let them tell you about it. Capitol hill is a unique area of town, not necessarily my favorite hill, but definitely a good place to shop for clothes and do some people watching. I saw some strange people out there walking the streets today, i too am probably a strange person to someone else.

So after shopping we came home to the real hill....Finn Hill....where the magic happens. I am currently baking a pumpkin pie and listening to The Jimi Hendrix Experience BBC Sessions. What a great freakin' cd!

I'm gonna get a good night sleep tonight and start all over tomorrow...i need to find myself a nice pair of pants to complete my outfit and a pair of shoes. wanna come help me shop?

last night while i was asleep, i had a dream. I was standing alone on a long stretch of beach. The sun was setting and casting an amber light on the ancient cliffs behind me. In the distance over the ocean horizon i heard something rumble like thunder. The water started the fade away from the sandy beach, farther and further, whichever is correct, it receded until it was gone. The rumbling thunder came closer and closer until i realized what it was. A GIANT wall of water careening at the speed of sound right towards ME. I was pumped! You might think that if a giant tsunami was coming I'd be scared, but i was quite the opposite of scared. I was excited! Looking forward to being annhiliated by a giant wall of speeding water. It got closer and closer. I climbed the cliffs the get a better view. 1,000 yards......500 yards.........100 yards and getting closer.....

Then BAM! It hit me, but my eyes were closed. I felt nothing. I heard nothing. i woke up to hail pounding my window and flashes of lightning and drums of thunder. Maybe someday i will see a real tsunami?!

I went to see one of my fave bands, Foxy Shazam, at the Showbox the other night (check em out). Sooo epic/beautiful/FUN!

Free parking!
Not having a ticket, then getting in line and discovering the guyz in front of me have an extra one because their friend (also named Garrett!! WHAAAT??!!?? Craaazzy coincidence) bailed on them. It was meant to be. We've been friendz ever since.

This time of year is one of my favorites. I love the leaves falling off the trees. The colors and smells are magnificent. Not to mention Halloween.....................the 2nd best holliday! (after thanksgiving that is......yummmmmmm)

I love the rain, and i dont mind the cold weather. Just gives us a good excuse to stay inside and drink hot cocoa. right?!

It's raining, Garrett's recording keyboard to "So in Love w/ Myself", Miles is working on his electric drums, and I'm writing a new song. A typical day in the life of Pat: loud noises, acoustic guitars, getting tangled up in wires. Today I was like "Have you heard of the Metrics? I just put their CD on hold at the library", and Garrett was all like "Dude, I have their CD in my car." Long story short, now I've made an illegal copy and I'm gonna play it in my car.

That makes me a pirate.

My future looks grim. I guess the next step for me is stealing cars and gold (hopefully I can be a Robin Hood-like pirate and disperse the wealth in a sort of neo-communist fashion, because as we all know, if you work really hard and earn something than someone should steal it from you and give it to someone else who worked really hard and didn't earn anything).

Anyway, I'm sure you're all curious as to what fascinating adventures Shotty's been getting into recently! Well, right now I would say that we're in our cocoon; saving up money and developing our new songs and whatever else we can think up. At this point we have one thing on our minds: the album! It's so exciting! It's shaping up to be quite spectacular.

In the meantime, we're very excited to get out and play for our favorite Seattle fans at the Redmond Firehouse's FIRST ANNUAL MONSTER MOSH! We're getting our costumes ready, and getting our ideas together. We want to make this a Halloween show to remember!

The rain continues pouring; each drop filling me with hope, collecting into the oceans, floating into the sky only to fall once again. It reminds me that all of life is a constant cycle of endless wonder, and with each new creation we help to push humanity forward into a future of love, insight, and of course outer space. Speaking of which, I want to go to mars, but that's a topic for another day...

We're Home! But Not For Long

We have made it home from the first leg of our first tour. We played 3 amazing shows....first was portland at the satyricon which was suprisingly amazing! The venue had vibes like el corazon and studio 7 when we showed up, but the people there were nothing short of AWESOME! It quickly turned from a possible "eh" kinda show to a great one. We will be back in portland soon for sure!

We ventured down to sacramento where we stayed at Guy's aunt Blanca's house. She had a pool and a hot tub and two very large dogs! We had a blast, but the real fun came at our show in Alameda where local band Finish Ticket was releasing an album. The kids from Alameda were some of the best i've ever met...so nice and loving! Shotty had a wonderful time.

Oh did i mention the ALL GIRL BAND FROM JAPAN?!?! No?

They were awesome too! Straight outa Tokyo, SUZAKU rocked everyones socks off. Just imagine an all girl japanese version of metallica and black sabath. you just gotta see them to believe it.

someday Shotty will go to Japan! trust me...it'll happen...and it'll be AMAZING!

Our last show was in sacramento at a place called Luigi's Fun Garden. We got free pizza! Free Sandwiches! And free love from the audience! We played with local "math rock" band SPEED OF SOUND UNDER SEA WATER and solo artist AUTUMN SKY. Both were great!

Now were home! but not for long. we leave again for San Francisco and LA on the 16th of September and we come back on the 26th!

Holy Cow! We (shotty) are going on tour.....#1

I'm really really really looking forward to it. We're gonna play shows along the west coast in a bunch of great cities. We start in Portland then head on down to Sacramento. From there we soon reach the city by the bay, San Francisco! I've never been to San Francisco before, except for when my airplane took a pit stop on the way to Palm Springs....but never have i walked the streets of the golden city.
Next is San Jose, and after that we reach LA. The city of angels. Then we venture down to the deepest part of Cali and do a show in San Diego.

This will definetely be the furthest i've been away from home in a quite along time. But as the professor (neil peart) once wrote "we're only at home when we're on the run"

Woke up this morning with one thing on my mind. "I love doing yard work!"
Mowing the lawn! Weeding! Pulling out trees! Thats what i had to do this morning, and now i'm more tired than i've ever been in my entire life....well not really, but i'm pretty darn tired. I hope i have enough energy to play drums. If there is one thing i love more than yard work, its drums. Drums are my real passion.

So actually i dont really love yard work. Its tiring and hot and makes me feel all sweaty, but sometimes you just gotta do it.

If not now than when?

My ears are ringing!

Just got back from a death metal concert in kirkland. Wow! all I have to say is that it was freakin' CRAZY!!!
I know that not many of you are in to heavy metal, let alone death metal, but sometimes when i cant play the drums to let out my aggression, i listen to metal. You should try it too! If you're brave enough.

Anyways, i went to see my friends band "Fester in Exile". A 3 piece death metal band from the same town as SHOTTY. Finn Hill, WA. They sound nothing like shotty, but they put on a pretty entertaining show. Super fast double bass + screams from the depths of hell + metal to the max guitar licks = the show i just went to see.

I had a good time! But i cant wait to play another shotty show. Those are always my favorite. Happiness and love....what more could one want?

PAT vs SATURDAY

Hey lovelies, it's PAT. I wanted to tell you all about our fun day on Saturday!

We got up at 5:30 in the morning and drove down to Seattle to play the Rock and Roll Marathon! It was awesome! There were so many runners, I think the event was a huge success. The guy rocking out with the rake was probably my favorite. Don't even get me started on the turkey sandwiches... unfortunately nobody told me that turkey goes bad after an hour in the sun.

Then we went down to Georgetown for the grand opening of the SLAB. We played to a hot, dark, crowded room. Sounds like my kind of show. I got punched in the face by my microphone! So I just punched that mic right back. Ain't nobody gonna mess with Shotty...

Actually you guys, I'm a pacifist. You know what I did? I turned the other cheek.

Overall, Saturday = awesome. Did I mention the pizza/candy? Shows and pizza go together like... Miles and drums... or Garrett and buckets... or Guy and obnoxious.

I also shot a little video while we were chillin' at the SLAB.

True story! I like how all of the sudden Guy's not wearing a shirt.

What is Shotty doing today, you ask? We're recording some new songs, and writing some other new ones!! They all sound killer. I hope you guys are having an amazing summer so far! We'll see you all again soon.

Oh Jeez!

Its been forever since i blogged, or vlogged, or plogged, or anything of the sort.

I guess i could just give you (whoever YOU are) a little update on how SHOTTY is doing.

A few months ago we released our 3 track EP "ah here we go" it sounds pretty darn awesome, and i suggest you come to one of our shows and buy it. Even though the only people probably reading this are other members of SHOTTY. hey guys!

Speaking about the members of SHOTTY.....we have a new member....as of a couple months ago. He plays ze bass guitar...and he is totally awesome! His name? You ask?

hmmmm....his name is so sacred i dont even know if i can say it, or type it for that matter. But i will force my fingers to type his name....i just hope i dont get struck by lightening or something.

PAT vs GUY'S APPENDIX

Hey there shotty-goers!

Guess what... Guy broke again! This time he had appendicitis. But he had surgery and now he's doing a lot better. Hopefully this will be the last time.

... this is just a thought, but maybe they could build a robot body for Guy, so he would be indestructible? He would have superhuman strength, but he would still have the mind of Guy.

Actually, that's a really scary thought. He would probably have lazer vision and he could fly but he would drive super fast. And as they say: with great power comes great respinsibility........

Is the world ready for a super-charged robot Guy?

... are you?

Or I guess the real question is, am I?

Would Guy have to leave the band cause the government would recruit him to solve secret international crimes? Who would play guitar in shotty? Or would Guy have enough power to save the world AND play guitar in shotty? I don't like this... maybe we should make TWO Guys, one for shotty and one for superheroness.

I think that's the best idea of them all. Two Guys, both robots, one saves the world through the power of good intentions, the other through the power of rock and love.

..... ?

... or MAYBE ... maybe Guy will be all better now that his appendix is taken out, and there will be no more problems and we won't need a robot Guy after all. That would be the best, hands down.

Guy's Appendix is No More!

Hello World.

I am now without an appendix. Yes indeed, it has been quite the ordeal.

It all started a few days ago. I woke up with bad cramps on sunday morning, but figured it was just my insides telling me to make delicious food for breakfast, and to stop eating all that junk food before bed! Unfortunately this was not the case.

By 9p.m. the burning and grumbling in my stomach was on the verge of unbearable pain, as I was arriving at the Holy Mountain club in downtown Seattle. While there, I managed to catch possibly the most bizarre performance I've ever seen in my entire life. Missoula, Montana's own "Knot Knocked Up." Their drummer performed topless, with a nice coating of face paint and a lightning bolt splattered accross her chest. Their singer, howling out such classic lyrics as "Crisco! Leads to fisting!!!", sported what appeared to be a classy, flowered moo-moo, circa 1985, and her top soon found it's way off as she encouraged the audience to strip naked. It was a sight to see.

By midnight I had made my way home, and soon found myself curled up in a ball, moaning in excrutiating pain. As I ran to the bathroom, vomiting and dry-heaving beyond my wildest nightmares, it donned on me that this may not be the flu. Being the idiot that I am, I let this cycle of attempting to sleep, drinking water, and then vomiting, continue until 6a.m., when it finally became apparent that a hospital visit would be necessary.

Of course, the idiot that I am, I would not let my close friend drive me, and instead resolved to drive myself from Seattle to Kirkland, sweating and vomiting out my window as I sped accross the 520 bridge. When I finally made it to the ER at Evergreen Hospital, I collapsed across a chair and a table, knocking over some potted plants. They soon stuck me in a wheel chair, found a room for me, and begin pumping me full of fluids, anti-nausea medicing, and narcotics for the pain. Several hours later, my appendix was removed, and here I am today, (nearly) good as new, and ready to rock out with Shotty as soon as I can figure out how to walk more than ten feet!

Thai 'Spider-Man' to the rescue

An unusual disguise has helped a Bangkok fireman rescue an eight-year-old boy who had climbed on to a third-floor window ledge, Thai police say.

The firefighter dressed up as the comic book superhero Spider-Man in order to coax the boy, who is autistic, from his dangerous perch.

Police said teachers had alerted the fire station after the boy began crying and climbed out of a classroom window.

It was reportedly his first day at the special needs school.

Efforts by the teachers to persuade the pupil to come back inside had failed.

But a remark by his mother about his passion for comic superheroes prompted fireman Somchai Yoosabai to rush back to the station, where he kept a Spider-Man costume in his locker.

The sight of Mr Somchai dressed as Spider-Man and holding a glass of juice for him, brought a big smile to the boy's face, and he promptly threw himself into the arms of his "superhero", police said.

Mr Somchai normally uses the costume to liven up fire drills in schools.

Exhaustion Overcame

Its been a tough couple days for me. I've been physically pushed to the limit and back while working at the car wash in the bitter cold weather.

Sure, its a sunny day so everyone with $$$ wants to get their car cleaned, but little did they know that it was nearly FREEZING outside of their heated cars. For nearly 10 hours, over a two day period, I braved the extreme cold and washed car after car after car after car. My shoes had holes in them, my feet were soaked to the bone.....my hands were beat up and my energy was nearly depleted.

BUT

My happiness and well being remained intact.

I can overcome anything, and so can you

Hello World.

I am currently confined to my bedroom, only a laptop, iTunes, and various reading materials to keep me entertained. No, I am not grounded, as many of you young people out there often find yourselves. And no, I am not ill. At least not in the traditional sense.

I am in fact self-confined...I have resolved not to leave my personal quarters until I have completed the 22-pages worth of essays due this coming Wednesday in my classes at the UW. Gah!

Fortunately, I have a myriad of talented artists at my fingertips, like Shotty (!) and Aretha Franklin. And I'm exhausted from our show-filled weekend. We performed a stunningly intimate 2+ hour set in the mountains this past Saturday, returning home to find that the snow followed us back to our residences on the Eastside. That snow has popped it's head into my life again today. What a day.

Yeah!

The band is doing real good! Our EP is about to be released. We're playing a lot of showwwwws. We're writing some "stellar" new songs! We're eating burritos. We're going on long walks around the 'hood. We're playing dress-up. We're coloring on CD's. We're watching cartoons. Yeah! The band is doing reallllly good!

I feel a lot better today. As you may or may not know I was very very sick on Friday, and yet I managed to play an intense hour and a half SHOTTY show @ Oddfellows. It was painful....It was nauseating....It was necessary. All for love of performing. As "they" say "the show must go on.." and it did.

Just last night, Shotty played at a quaint bar & grill in downtown Redmond, WA. There were a lot of people there! It looked kinda like this (but more night-time-ish):

What's next for Shotty? Who knows? Maybe once we've taken over the world, we'll go do a tour on mars?

But seriously now... I'll be happy wherever we are! As long as nobody takes my dip!

Happy Valentine's Day! Well...perhaps it is now officially February 15th, but in my heart it will still be V-Day until I fall asleep. And boy, what a day!

I wasn't able to get into the battle of the bands at EMP tonight because it was sold out! Lame! But, of course, I always find ways to involve myself in some form of hijinx, and ended up in the International District, loving life, and, specifically, Chinese food.

I also was able to spend today with a very very special Valentine, along with my close, most trusty friends! And....Shazam! Perfect V-Day. I hope all of you out there had a comfortable and pleasing day as well!

PAT vs VALENTINES DAY

Oh goody! It's valentines day! Is everybody happy? Is everybody feeling the loooove?

Valentines day always seems to remind me that LOVE doesn't care if it's requited or not. That's the job of desire and desperation. LOVE simply needs to be felt and expressed and given in large doses. It's sad when people don't return our love, but that doesn't need to sap the joy from the love we feel.

The more we love, the more happy the world will be. In the meantime we might be sad, or lonely, or jovial, or content. No matter what the feeling, as long you have YOURSELF and YOUR LOVE then everything will be alright. Nobody can hurt you unless your hurt yourself.

Of course I shouldn't be talking. This year I'm spending valentines day with the loveliest of loved ones! I earned it though! A few years ago I spent valentines day napping because my valentine ditched me for another valentine. It was sad! But now it's happy! It's very happy! I have enough love for everyone, I just don't have enough time (or omnipresence) to express it in the proper doses.

Alas! Such is the nature of love. Is your love really a gift to the world? Or is it a gift to yourself?

Hello Lovely World!

Things seem extra beautiful today. Perhaps it was that smattering of icy snow on the ground this morning...or it may have been the crystal clear skies breathing new life into my morning commute...essentially, things are just better when the sun stops by Seattle and says "Hello!"

To top it all off, my good friend Django Reinhardt is providing much needed and infinitely relaxing rhythm to my day with his clever and jazzy guitar playing. Hooray for gypsies conquering music!

So to all of you lovely, lovely ladies and gentlemen out there, keep your eyes open to the brighter side of life. Remember...it may be raining one day, but summer is always just around the corner.

Weather Report February 9th 2009

Woke up early to a cold and snow covered house. This was about 6 in the morning.Oh man, the snow returns yet again!

But it was very short lived :( The sun came out and is doing its job well. Melting all the fresh powder into water where it will either wash down into the drains or evaporate to become rain on a later day.

THEY say it may snow again, but we just dont know for sure....so until then.......listen to SHOTTY. Its the only way to make the snow come come back.

Do you love cartoons as much as I do? Or am I just crazy?

Maybe I am a little crazy.

The Land Before Time and The Brave Little Toaster are the two greatest movies ever made. Period. (says pat)

I used to watch TONS of Cartoon Network. I love Toonami! And I love Jonny Bravo, Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, I Am Weasel, Ed Edd and Eddy. Maaaan, those were the days. Nickelodeon was great too, but Cartoon Network was something else... like a whole other planet of cartoon wonderlandness. Maybe I just have cartoons on the mind. I found this and it reminded me:

Yaaay!!!

The only downside to cartoons is that TV doesn't make you feel very good. Well, maybe it makes YOU feel good, but it makes ME feel all lazy and lumpy.

But I must admit, if you're having one of those days where you just say "screw it!" cartoons on TV are a lot more fun with the addition of:

Blizzards!

What's my favorite Blizzard flavor, you might ask?

... Butterfinger! Of course.

It's unbeatable. Cookie dough is a close second.

I'll admit it... I signed up for the Blizzard fan club! I get a free Blizzard every couple of months. At least I get plenty of excercise, and I try to lay off the cartoons as much as possible. Playing rock music is a pretty hard work out, you know. Us musicians need to have a Blizzard and cartoon day now and then, just because.

Saturday is my father's memorial. May Rick Keltner forever rest in peace, and I wish him the best wherever he may be at this very moment.

Sometimes the going gets tough. And other times it gets even tougher. This has been about the toughest time I've ever experienced in my entire life, but if you are out there reading this right now, I would just like to let you know that things will get better, even if it takes time.

My father passed away this week and although it did not come as a complete shock, it was quite the painful and unpleasant experience. In fact the experience is far from over, and each day will be taxing on my soul and body. However, if I have learned anything in the past few days, the most important is that there is good to be found in this world, and the best can be made of any situation. While my father's passing was quite unfortnate, I feel that there is something to be learned from his life, his lifestyle, and his death. I think that if these sort of things go unnoticed, a great tragedy would be occurring. However, I refuse to let these lessons slip beneath my fingers, and I hope to spread as much joy as possible despite this awful situation.

I love all of you and I plan on performing tomorrow. My dad would have wanted it that way.

Is snow supposed to be really fun? Or really annoying? I think it's supposed to be random. Snow just does whatever it wants! All you have to do is walk outside and look around to really realize how awesome snow is. Sure it makes everything harder. But is that really snow's fault? Or is it our inflexibility, our lifestyles, or our desire for things to be good?

Snow is indifferent. It's up to us to decide whether it's bad or good, and it'll be there whether we like it or not!

It's really pretty, really white, really cold, really slippery, really dangerous, and really super cool.

I feel for all the people who are having a much harder time because of the snow. It's not making my life any easier. But at least it's new! I love it.

I'm not going to say it.

That would be too predictable.

But I will say this: I really like what's happening outside. One could even say that I really approve of the weather.

It's fitting for the season, being so close to a certain day that we spend giving and recieving presents and love; a day that seems almost defined by contrast between the warm hearts and homes and the very cold and wet... white... rain-like... falling from the sky... sounds like "know"... one could build a "man" out of it... one could also craft a sort of "ball" out of it... it creates a sort of a "late in the year cold season land of wonder, fitting to be walked in"... penguins like it too... you know what I'm talking about!

Christmas is all about the love and the warmth and the flashy colors and the giving people gifts! That sounds like what my whole life is about! I'm glad there's an entire season devoted to keeping us warm when the weather doesn't seem to agree.

Although in a strange way, snow seems more warm than a cold autumn day. Maybe it's because of the...

HOT COCO FACTOR!

I'm pretty sure that hot coco consumption is much more common on snowy days. But if you're like me, and you drink hot coco almost every day (even in the sunny summer warmth), then the only difference you notice is nature's subtle nod of approval as you pour your bubbly brown beverage in the cold white of the winter.

... speaking of snow: Word on the street is it's supposed to snow today and tomorrow! I don't know if I believe Walter Kelly or Andy (Woppin') Wappler, but if Steve Pool is down, I'm down!

Guy On Life Parté Trois

Today has been a day wonderful beyond all expectations. I spent a large majority of my day in the cramped studio that is home to the wonders of Shotty, and realized that this is going to be the most prolific and amazing period in my life. I became quite happy and decided to work hard with a large smile on my face.

And hilarious and interesting things came about, and that is the way that Shotty works. Like many other things in life, my band works in mysterious ways, and not a single day goes by without a significantly noticable surprise.

And now it is nearly two thirty in the morning and that smile has not left my face. So to you World, stay optimistic and try your best to be happy! I love you!

Life does not get much better than this. I have just completed what may well have been the best night of my life in a long long time! Things That Glow

The Smashing Pumpkins glow.

I just watched the Smashing Pumpkins new video for their song G.L.O.W. It was pretty cool. I liked the part with the bunny people playing some sort of paddle game.

Traffic lights glow.

Lately, I've been hitting a lot of yellows. Sometimes it seems like the lights are out to get me, like they have minds of their own and for some reason they always want me to stop in front of each and every one of them. I was starting to get really frustrated so to deal with it I started to think of something that I'm thankful for everytime I encounter a yellow light. For instance, how many people I've seen wearing yellow shotty shirts. This seems to work for me. You should try it if the yellow lights are out to get you as well.

Christmas glows.

Speaking of glowing things, Don't you love when you start seeing the first houses with Christmas lights up? I love Christmas lights! I want seeing shotty to evoke the same feelings as seeing Christmas lights...or something like that.

My computer screen glows.

It's not as pretty as Christmas lights, but I least I can watch LOST on it. I'm almost done with season 4 which means I'll be all caught up. YEAH!

Burrito Night!

Tonight is burrito night in the land of shotty! Pat and I put together a nice batch of warm and delicious burritos for all to eat and enojoy. Its hard for me to describe how delicious these magnificent things taste simply because they taste so good! The feeling you get when you eat one of these burritos is like when you finish a 1,000 piece puzzle that you've been working on for nearly 3 months. Or finishing a really good book. Its more than just good taste.....Its complete physical and mental satisfaction.......mmmmmmmmmmmmmm i just had one, and now i feel like a million bucks. maybe someday you too will enjoy the amazing-ness of a Burrito Night ™ burrito in the land of shotty............that is if you can find the magical shotty land.........ooooohhhhh

And in between doing that and writing, I decided that playing a real guitar would be a good idea too. So I did that and wrote a song about love.

I feel good today!

Do you ever wake up and just feel good? You go to eat breakfast and it's just extra tasty? You drink your morning green tea and it seems to warm your body in an extra nice way? You go on the computer and it's just so... computery!

That's how I feel today!

Maybe I just have a surplus of happy December vibes, or the jet stream is blowing some Japanese love my way, or the moon is perfectly balanced with the sun and it's creating a field of contentment.

I hope you feel extra good today! I hope your food was tasty, and your tea / coffee was extra warm, and your friends are all extra nice, and school / work is extra rewarding, and every breath of air you take is extra smooth and sweet and fills your body with a sort of undying, optomistic energy that penetrates to your very soul, and glows and shines warmth on all those around you.

I hope today you can look at yourself in the mirror and smile at your own PRETTY FACE, happy that if all else fails you have YOURSELF and no one can ever take that away from you.

So give yourself a hug! Today is going to be a great day... December is going to be a great month... and your life is going to be absolutely wonderful, because you can do whatever you want in this BEAUTIFUL, magical world we live in.

Its soooooo late!!!! or should i say early. Its 1 oclock in the morning and Guy and I just got back from seeing Cheech & Chong live at the Paramount theatre. It was great, but all i could think about was how amazing it's going to be when SHOTTY plays at the Paramount. Oh boy will it be an awesome show. I dont know when, but someday we will rock so hard at the Paramount that the giant chandeliers with fall to the ground and turn to dust..............magical dust that is! There will be a sea of yellow SHOTTY shirts moving to the mystic rhythms. The love will be in the air, and so will the sweet smell of an epic drum solo.

It's been a long weekend...and it's still not over.

I feel like I've been on vacation for a lifetime, and that lifetime has had its ups and downs, lefts and rights, and everything in between. I'd like to briefly state that I love playing games, but I hate when people play games with me! Especially if I have no idea what the rules of their games are!!!

Despite the pain of being shamelessly toyed with, I'm going to see Cheech and Chong at the Paramount with Miles tonight! Hooray! Hooray for getting out of Kirkland for an evening! Hooray for long weekends!!!

PAT vs THE ROBOTS

I don't know if you have noticed, but the robots are taking over. It's happening slowly. Think of how popular electronic music is. That's how the robots work: they start by invading our social lives. Have you noticed how much longer you spend on the computer these days? Robots! The internet? Robots! Myspace? Robots! Don't get me wrong; I'm not neccessarily against the robots. I just want to point out that one by one we are all being swindled and diddled by our digital counterparts. What's the biggest difference between a robot and a person?

LOVE!

We can fight the robot epidemic with our love! Just like Mufasa said in the Lion King, "Everything the light touches is our kingdom", and I believe he was purposefully excluding the darkness beyond, the encroaching tide of malevolence, the ever-expanding swath of wrongfulness, and ultimately the cold metal hand of the robots that want nothing more than to squash our love and wield our battered souls in their ageless quest for the unraveling of the collective human mind and the expansion of the mighty robot empire!

...

Maybe not, but just in case, I would feel a lot safer if we all did our part and made sure to LOVE everywhere and everything and everywho (including the robots) ! I know we'll all do a fine job.

Guy's Thanksgiving!

Hello World.

It is indeed one twenty five in the a.m. on this wonderful post-thanksgiving day. And I am on my computer. Never fear! Thanksgiving was a wonderfully delightful experience, and, despite the many flaws in my day, I enjoyed it to the fullest.

I learned from my family, as many of you dear readers may have learned in thanksgivings past, that this is a holiday that is not about the meal, but about spreading the love. Families come together from wide and far, however dysfunctional they may be, and enjoy being stuck at a table together, sitting face to face with people we never see and may never want to see. But we plaster a smile on our faces and make sure that everyone around us knows that we care about them!

Sometimes drama sticks its viscious head in the dining room! Thankfully, this was a year with minimal drama! But my heart goes out to all of you that may have been forced to tolerate a loved one making bad jokes; an uncle bringing up politics to the wrong audience; a pair of aunts who break out in a cat fight, or any number of other sad all too familiar family travesties that occur each and every year.

So to all who did, congratulations on having a wonderful day!

To all who didn't, tomorrow those jerks have to head to the airport! But they love you!

PAT vs EGGNOG

Thanksgiving is the BEST holiday EVER!

Why?

EGGNOG! Oh my gosh! So I guess there's 2 kinds of eggnog: the REALLY gross kind, and the REALLY super amazing kind that makes you want to sleep forever in a giant ocean of eggnog, sipping as you dream, smiling as you float. For some reason I've only had the really gross eggnog for my entire life up until now... I had lost faith. As we all know, when you loose faith in eggnog you lose faith in yourself.

And of course last night I was reminded how many calories are in a cup of eggnog... so I don't believe in calories anymore. Sorry calories, you had your chance. Now I must add calories to the list of other make believe worries such as: MSG, carbs, pizza, emo, and global warming (the globe just gets warmer as you hearts get colder, people!! Let's save the world with our love!).

Maybe it's the food, maybe it's the clean house, maybe it's the loved ones I'm surrounded by, or maybe it's all just eggnog. Anyway you look at it, Thanksgiving is the greatest day of the year (if you don't think about the other days and JUST think about how fun thanksgiving is)!

And this year, I am thankful for YOU. Because as we all know, you make the world go round! (and my heartbeat is groovin'!)

Queen!!!

I just listened to the new Queen singles on their myspace hahaha...amazing! Kind of cheesy at first, but once you get past the insane production value and the paul rogers aspect, you realize how great of a band they really are. Go Queen!!!

Also, track down "I don't think I'm ever gonna figure it out" by Elliott Smith. Probably one of his best songs that never ended up on an album. It's also making my day right now.

These songs are infinitely enhancing my homework experience!!!

I just want to begin by saying the show Friday night was perhaps one of the funnest experiences of the past few months for me! Thank you to everyone who came out to the OFH and brought the rock.

I unfortunately suffered some moderate injuries due to the intensity of the audience. I thought I had broken a rib after being dragged into the crowd by some over eager fans, but it seems more likely that I just merely bruised my sternum. I find it in hilarious and am in no way embittered by the experience. However, I have been taking it easy the last couple of days and spending a lot of time in bed! :)

Despite the injury, this has been a great weekend for Shotty. I am in the finest mood I've been in for several months, and I have a feeling things can only get better! I've met some very interesting new people and am finding that surprises can come from unlikely places. Like other members of the band, I have been consuming lots of old black and white movies and lots of good food, and I think that monday will be a wonderfully refreshing rehearsal.So everyone, go out and seize the day!

Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon

I'm sure everyone is super exhausted from the show on friday night. I know i am. I rocked harder than i ever have before!!!...........not really, but i rocked pretty dang hard. Thanks to all who came to support us, we really love you all.I know it may be hard to wait almost a month until the next SHOTTY show, but let me assure you that it will be worth the wait!!!

We've been taking it easy the last two days, drinking tea, eating crumpets, and watching a lot of old...........very old, black and white movies. I've gone on several walks around our neighboorhood, enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells telling me that winter is just around the corner.Come monday we will get right back to work. Playing loud music, coloring on cd sleeves, maybe even going to the studio to finish recording!! I cant wait...........

CD Sleeves and Keanu Reeves

I had the misfortune of watching Keanu Reeves' performance in "Point Break" this week. A friend mentioned the movie to me in a joke he was telling. I didn't get so I went out and rented it. My recomendation:don't watch it. It's so terrible that it's....it's just awful.

Anyways, Shotty has been busily at work on our hand drawn CD sleeves all day so that you wonderful ladies and gents can have a special musical treat to take home with you after our show at OFH on Friday! We've been enjoying blabbing about topics that range from lazer gun performances to humorous bodily functions, and even discussing the short life spans of children's washable markers. Whew! Such random subject matter. Ah, but boys will be boys and being boys, their minds tend to wander.

And today is a great day...because it is the first day of the rest of your life and mine. I hope that those of you in Seattle are enjoying the sprinkly weather, and that those of you elsewhere are inspired by whatever the sky is treating you with, stormy, sunny, or just plain boring.

Come check out our set tomorrow at the Old Firehouse in Redmond. The show starts at eight and Shotty will probably close it out around eleven.

...That's right. We finally posted some new songs. On our homepage as we speak. I've never been more serious in my life.

I'd also like to note that these are not the recordings Pat previously mentioned that we've been in the studio working on for days. These new tracks are merely delicious samples to whet your appetite.

I must say that it has been an eventful couple of days for our group. Have you ever gone several weeks without a good night's rest (and I'm talking about five hours average sleep each night) and then enjoyed that one successful night where you finally sleep til noon? So refreshing....so the product of a successful musical outing. I feel great now. The whole band feels great. We're ready to go out and unleash ourselves on this unsuspecting world.

I hope you enjoy the new songs! I wrote Inside Out about a girl...a girl I once felt very strongly towards who is now a stranger to me. The lyrics are somewhat of an obscene expression of my feelings for her. But now I think that this song applies to my interactions with women in general, and can accurately capture how most guys feel about the girl that makes their heart race.

And then there's Pat's beautiful epic, Not Today, After Work. I can't even begin to use words to describe this song. Just listen to it.And pray with me that the good times keep rolling in for shotty in the coming months.

PAT vs THE RECORDING STUDIO

Man oh man oh man oh man!!

We've spent the past 2 days recording 3 radio singles with Martin Feveyear at Jupiter Studios! It sounds like a dream. Like one of those dreams where you're being chased by zombies and you're really scared because no matter how many you take down, they just keep coming, but at the last minute you realize that you can fly, so you fly away and spend the rest of the night exploring the skies above the vast wooden reaches of southern middle earth, blissfully content in the company of all of your favorite Lord of the Rings characters (and Harry Potter is there too).

We were about to lay down our first live take of Inside Out, feeling kinda intimidated by the fancy studio and the obvious amounts of money and years of skill that have gone into making it one of the top studios in Seattle! The last thing Martin said to us before we started to play was "Be fearless". We exchanged starry-eyed glances, and team shotty set sail, laying down a solid foundation for what would grow to be a massive tower of the most epic rock and roll imaginable (not unlike Isengard, before the trees were all ripped down by the orcs, and before Saruman the wise exchanged all reason for madness!).

We will be returning to the studio soon to finish with keyboard and vocals...

And OMG... seriously... you have to hear these songs!!!!! u will ♥ them so much ... You! Our beloved shotty-goers, fellow soldiers of love, fanboys/girls, and enthusiasts alike! Today we are all one. Today we are ALL shotty.
